Current status of farm excrement disposal and use of manure solids separator in China


 

In the past 10 years, China's aquaculture industry has developed rapidly. The number and scale of large-scale pig farms are also increasing year by year. 

At present, the annual fecal production of live pigs and poultry in China is as high as 580 million tons, and the annual discharge of fecal water is as high as 6 billion tons. However, Beijing and Shanghai use engineering measures to deal with only 3% and 4% of their emissions.

The environmental pollution caused by a large number of feces is becoming more and more serious. Many foul-smelling pig farms, mosquitoes and flies swarm, groundwater nitrate seriously exceeded the standard.

 

Farmers are still unfamiliar with the manure solids separator and are reluctant to spend thousands of dollars on them. It also leads to the difficult situation of manure disposal.

1) Small pig farm

 

Water saving measures, For example, the sawdust farms in Taiwan and Hong Kong in Japan and China.

The daily excretion of pig urine is constantly spread on the floor and absorbed and digested by a layer of sawdust mixed with certain microorganisms. Every once in a while, it is loaded with fertilizer and replaced with new sawdust. 

In some cases, the manure is separated by solid and liquid, and the manure residue is composted as fertilizer. The sewage is treated by anaerobic digestion (biogas digester) and discharged to farmland and fish pond. Recently, membrane separation technology has been used in Japan.

For small farms, in order to save costs, small manure solids separator are usually used. 

Note that small manure solids separator do not represent low power, for manure solids separator, the most important thing is the processing power.

2) Medium pig farm.

 

Medium-sized pig farms in Western European countries represented by France and Germany are compatible with farming. 

After handling the biogas plant with a higher degree of automation, pig dung is stored in a number of 500~1000 m3 steel cans and transported to farmland for manure when needed.

The biogas produced is the power and heat source of the farm, thus forming a benign ecological farm with multi-level utilization of biomass.

The use of manure solids separator in medium-sized pig farms is the most common. Thirty percent of our manure solids separator are sold to medium-sized pig farms.

  

3) Large pig far.

 

Some large pig farms in the United States are built on the slopes of semi-desert areas. Usually, the pig manure water goes downhill, and after 7 to 8 days, the pig farm will be moved to other places. This not only reduces the cost of waste treatment but also improves the soil and increases fertility. It also lays a foundation for future crop cultivation.

  

Pig farms in developed countries attach great importance to environmental protection. Most large pigs generally use solid-liquid separation, anaerobic digestion (*biogas fermentation) and sedimentation. 

 

Because of the development of science and technology, every link has innovation. For example, large-scale biogas plants used to be spinning and sewing tanks with large steel mixtures,Later, it developed into a steel-mixed rectangular tank with UASB (Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Bed Reactor) technology.

Recently, UASB cell with no top cover and the three-phase separator made of special adhesive tape has appeared in Australia. In the aerobic process, a variety of simple and practical shallow shooting aeration devices have been developed on the traditional blast aeration device.

In order to simplify the process and improve the removal rate of suspended solids, a large-scale air flotation device with high flocculation efficiency was added to the sewage treatment process of a large pig farm in Australia immediately after the fecal water was precipitated. The BOD of effluent was reduced to 1800 mg/L (estimated COD was 3000 mg/L), and then discharged to pasture for irrigation.

  

The situation of farms in China

 

More than 90% of China's large-scale pig farms do not have fecal wastewater treatment facilities and even simple manure solids separator.

In order to achieve better economic benefits, most of the pig farms using engineering facilities to treat manure are mainly aimed at energy and comprehensive utilization.

 

Biogas is used for centralized gas supply (a small number of power generation), biogas slurry and biogas residue are used as fertilizers for farmland, vegetable fields, fruit trees, and cash crops, as well as feed additives for cattle and fish. Only a few of them aim at environmental protection.

Its technological process is similar to that of foreign countries, that is, solid-liquid separation-anaerobic digestion-aerobic treatment-aquatic plant pond. In some projects, in order to reduce energy consumption and operation costs, the anaerobically digested effluent is directly discharged into plant ponds (slopes and ditches) after treatment.

 


Summary of Overview at Home and Abroad (Use of manure solids separator)


 

1) There are basically two methods for the treatment of manure in large and medium-sized pig farms at home and abroad:

 

One is comprehensive utilization, the other is the discharge of sewage up to standard.

 

It is feasible for farms, villages and vast land units with planting and breeding industries to adopt the method of "comprehensive utilization", which is also a good way for multi-level utilization of biomass energy, construction of ecological agriculture and ensuring sustainable development of agriculture.

Only by adopting the method of "sewage discharge up to the standard" can we ensure the long-term and stable survival and development of the pig industry.

 

2) For pig manure, anaerobic digestion (biogas fermentation) process must be adopted for this high concentration of organic wastewater. Because only anaerobic digestion can remove a large number of soluble organic matter (removal rate can reach 85%-90%), and can kill the source of infectious diseases, which is conducive to epidemic prevention.

Of course, it is also a good choice to use the manure solids separator to dehydrate and process into fertilizer.

  

3) For piggery with "sewage discharge up to standard", the domestic and foreign treatment processes of manure water are roughly the same.

 

Based on our practical experience and our visits to Southeast Asian countries(In 2016, ZHEHAN went to Southeast Asian countries to investigate the use of manure solids separator on farms.), As long as there is a certain water surface, we should try our best to use "aquatic plant pond" for advanced treatment of sewage. The effect is very effective, and the investment is low, and there is little energy consumption.

If the water surface is enough, it can replace the aerobic treatment process with high energy consumption; if the water surface is insufficient, it can also be used as a supplement to the aerobic treatment process.

Of course, most farms do not have such conditions. The cheapest way is to use a manure solids separator.

 


Treatment Technology of Piggery Manure Water And Manure Solids Separator


 

1. Determination of Piggery Sewage Quality

Adult pigs in large-scale pig farms using formulated feed have the same amount of organic matter per row per day.

 

COD content, 0.45 kg

DOD content, 0.11-0.18 kg

TS, 0.44 kg

SS, 0.35 kg

VS, 0.33 kg

 

At present, pig farms have two ways of excrement:

 

One is the way of water washing and excrement clearance, mainly in Guangdong and other provinces.

 

Secondly, artificial feces are the main method and water flushing is the supplementary method, mainly in Sichuan, Hubei, and Hunan, and there is a trend of further expansion.

 

Either way, the ultimate goal is to do the preliminary work of the manure solids separator in the treatment of feces.

 

2. Testing of particle size and sedimentation performance of pig manure water.

 

Fresh pig manure, water flushing manure, and artificial clear manure water were tested and the results were as follows.

 

1) The moisture content of fresh pig manure is about 70%.  

2) Settlement performance test.

The COD removal rate of the screened wastewater after 15 minutes of sedimentation is as shown in Table 3.

Although there are errors between the results of static and dynamic tests, the results show that the settling performance of pig manure water, especially fresh manure water, is very good.

 

3. Air Flotation Test of Pig Manure Water

In order to verify the effect of air flotation on the treatment of wastewater, we carried out air flotation tests on pig manure water and supernatant after anaerobic treatment. The results are as follows:

 

1) The removal rate of COD was 10% without adding medicine to the raw manure of pig farm.  

2) Floatation test of anaerobic effluent without adding medicine. 

3) Drug-addled Air Flotation Test of Raw Fecal Water

The treatment of high concentration pig manure water by adding medicine and air flotation is effective, but the cost of treatment is high.

The effect of treating anaerobic effluent without adding medicine gas is not high, so the air flotation method is not considered for the time being.

 

4. Determination of process flow and parameters of pig manure water treatment

 

1) Design scheme of the process flow

According to the above experiments, the treatment process of pig manure water by artificial dung method is shown in Fig. 1.

 

2) Parameter design of each process in the process flow, in which the value in parentheses is the removal rate.  

a. Water quality of raw manure COD=11 250 mg/L, BOD=4 500 mg/L, SS=8 750 mg/L. 

b. Water Quality of Raw Fecal Water after manure solids separator treatment and Sedimentation Tank COD=6 750 mg/L(40%),BOD=3 300 mg/L(25%),SS=4 800 mg/L(45%)。
