Manure application

Aug. 15, 2018

Organic manure has always been a very popular fertilizer in the development of planting industry. The animal manure in daily livestock is an important source of fertilizer for plant growth. Manure contains abundant organic matter and all kinds of nutrients needed by crops. It has a good effect on increasing crop yield and improving soil fertility. But in recent years, the unreasonable application of manure has increased significantly. When manure is used in the wrong place, it will be not only ineffective but also get exactly the opposite. So what kind of soil is suitable for different manures?

Main ingredients of some kinds of livestock manures

pig manure

Pig manure contains about 15% organic matter, 0.5%N, 0.5%P, 0.35~0.45%K. Pig manure has the fine texture and complex composition. It contains protein, fat, organic acid, cellulose, hemicellulose and inorganic salt, etc. Because of the high nitrogen content, the ratio of carbon to nitrogen is smaller, about 14: 1, which makes the pig manure more easy to be decomposed by microorganisms and be absorbed and utilized by crops.

Pig manure has the highest humus content, the largest amount of positive substitution, the strongest fertility, but more water content, less cellulose-decomposing bacteria. If it mixed with a small amount of horse manure, inoculated with cellulose-decomposing bacteria, will greatly increase fertilizer efficiency.

Cow dung

Cow dung contains about 14.5% organic nitrogen, 0.30~0.45% N, 0.15~0.25% P, and 0.10 ~ 0.15% K. The cow dung' s content of organic matter and nutrient is the lowest in all kinds of livestock, the texture is fine and dense, much moisture content , low decomposition, low calorific value, and it is a kind of late-effect fertilizer.

Because of the high moisture content, poor aeration and difficult decomposition of organic matter, cow dung is a cold fertilizer.

Horse dung

The horse dung contains 21% organic matter, 0.4%-0.5% N, 0.2%-0.3 P, 0.35-0.45% K. Cellulose and hemicellulose are the most important components in the horse dung. In addition, the horse dung also contains lignin, protein, fat, organic acids and many inorganic salts.

The moisture in horse manure is easy to evaporate, and it contains much fiber degrading bacteria, which is a kind of hot fertilizer. The application of horse dung can improve the nature of clay.

Sheep dung

Sheep dung contains 24~27% organic matter, 0.7~0.8% N, 0.45~0.6% P, 0.4~0.5% K. Sheep dung contains much more organic matter than other animal dung, has the fine texture and high-quality fertilizer.

The fever of sheep manure is between horse manure and cow dung. It is a kind of hot fertilizer, which is also called warm fertilizer. It is applied to sandy soil and clay soil, and the effect will be better.

poultry manure

poultry manure contains 25.5% organic matter, 1.63% N, 1.54% P, 0.85% K, 11% Carbohydrates, 7% fiber. The fresh poultry manure has a high water content.

The nitrogen in poultry manure (including chicken manure, duck manure, goose manure, pigeon manure, etc.) is mainly uric acid, which can not be absorbed directly by crops, and is harmful to the growth of crop root system. At the same time, fresh poultry manure is easy to attract underground pests.
